Kinder-Uni 2023: Focus Theme "Zero Waste"

The Kinder-Uni with the focus theme "Zero Waste" consisted of three parts:

For the first time, we collaborated with the City of Braunschweig (Department of Education), the Grund- und Hauptschule Pestalozzistraße, and the Haus der Wissenschaft GmbH.

The focus theme "Zero Waste" related to the Sustainability Award for Braunschweig schools, and our Children's University program with explanatory videos, podcast series, and a grand closing lecture is geared towards that.

The Children's University Braunschweig is supported by the Ecki-Wohlgehagen Foundation and the Braunschweig Citizens' Foundation. Many thanks!

What is "Zero Waste"?

Lecture in the Audimax on October 7, 2023.

Kinder-Uni Podcast

How can plastic bottles be recycled?

Prof. Dr. Stephan Scholl | Institute of Chemical and Thermal Process Engineering

Lecture Content:

Plastic waste is one of the biggest environmental problems of the present: it dirties roadside areas, ends up as microplastics in oceans, and is predominantly incinerated today. As a vast and readily available source of raw materials, they could replace petroleum and natural gas in many applications.

In the lecture, we will therefore address the following questions: What recycling options are available for plastics today? Are all plastics equally recyclable? What would need to be done to recycle more plastics? And what can be made from recycled plastics?

For parents and accompanying persons, the lecture was broadcast to a neighboring lecture hall!

Accompanying Podcast Series on "Zero Waste": Clever Nachgefragt!

The accompanying podcast series on the topic of "Zero Waste" titled "Clever Nachgefragt!" was created in cooperation with the Grund- und Hauptschule Pestalozzistraße and the Haus der Wissenschaft Braunschweig.

Explanation videos for children between 8 and 12 years old

In 17 explanation videos, as part of the Children's University 2022/23, we explained what sustainability actually means. Over three days, the topics of ecological, social, and economic sustainability were vividly explained for children aged 8 to 12, as well as older individuals and adults. A special explanation video was published for each goal.

So what are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) exactly? These are 17 goals set by the United Nations. These 17 goals for ecologically, socially, and economically sustainable development are to be achieved by 2030.

2030... that's not so far away! That's why TU Braunschweig also aims to prioritize ecological, social, and economic sustainability in line with the SDGs. But what does all of this mean exactly? You can find out in the explanation videos, each lasting 30 seconds.

If you want to know more, you can also visit the website 17ziele.de.
